Synopsis

Dr. Brock Williams is a psychologist in Boulder, Colorado where he treats a variety of patients. A religious killer is at large in the area leaving a Bible page at each crime scene with the victim's "sin" highlighted. It seems a coincidence initially that each victim is Brock's patient but suspicion rises when more and more patients are killed. The pressure builds when it's discovered the "sin" each victim was killed for was also the victim's presenting problem in therapy. When Brock's fingerprints are found at a murder scene, the authorities begin to zero in on him as their primary suspect. Brock realizes he must catch the killer to save his patients from further harm and to avoid prosecution himself. Attempting to unravel the mystery leads him deep into a psychological maze and a trap carefully set by the killer, one that implicates him in the murders and could take his life.

Max E. Carlson was born in 1949 and raised in Western Nebraska on a farm while attending a one room rural schoolhouse through the eighth grade. After graduating from high school in Chappell, Nebraska, he attended the University of Northern Colorado where he majored in English and minored in psychology. Following graduation, he taught English composition for two years at the University of Northern Colorado. He then attended Law School at the University of Nebraska and practiced law in Colorado and Nebraska from 1976 until retirement in 2012. He served as the Sedgwick County Colorado Judge for thirty-three years beginning at the age of twenty-eight. His hobbies include photography and writing. He’s the father of four boys. He resides part-time in Julesburg, Colorado but mostly in Prospect New Town of Longmont, Colorado with his wife Ann and dog Eykis. He’s the author of two other books, Bucketcalf (2010) and a novel, The Tahiti Room (2013). He can be reached by email at moxiec@gmail.com.
