Synopsis

Jane has retired from teaching school, divorced her boring husband, found a much better companion in hound-mutt Lizette, and bought 250 acres of remote, rough woodland in middle Tennessee. She hopes to finally connect with nature. Instead of solitude, she hears shooting in the woods just off her property. She and Lizette investigate. She discovers two bearded men camped there. They are clearly trying to hide their activities and are hostile and threatening. The county sheriff’s department is no help. Jane gradually pieces together some suspicions, and hires a local low-life to investigate. The bearded men capture him. Jane tries to rescue him, but they capture her too. With Lizette’s help, she escapes. They pursue her, and the dangerous situation escalates, but with odd inconsistencies that keep Jane wondering, as well as terrified for herself and Lizette.
