Alex Simmons is an award-winning freelance writer, comic book creator, playwright, teaching artist, and educational consultant. He’s written for Disney Books, Penguin Press, as well as DC and Archie Comics, to name a few. Simmons is most well known for his creator-owned series Blackjack and for books he’s written for Archie Comics. He founded the annual family event, Kids Comic Con, and three comic art exhibits. Simmons has lead creative arts workshops for students and educators in the US, West Indies, and Africa. Simmons has served on panels, and delivered lectures on children’s entertainment mediums, as well as empowering young people through the arts. He is currently writing two more Blackjack stories; scripts for an animation project, and developing a comics and creative arts program for children in the U.S., Europe, and Africa. That trilogy will end with CITY OF LOVE and will complete Ryan's modern take on Dante's "The Divine Comedy". He also wrote the children's book THE FERGUSON FILES, featuring Margaret Agnes Ferguson. He's received a number of honors including the Independent Book Publishers' Association's Benjamin Franklin Award for "Best New Voice in Fiction", Writer's Digest honorable mentions in the television/movie script, inspirational writing, the Rutgers University Graduate English Department Award for Highest Distinction in Literary Studies, and Best News Column from the New York State Press Association. Ryan has a featured role in the 2015 independent film, a crime thriller, CLANDESTINE, he wrote, directed, produced, and acted in the upcoming horror comedy ZOMBIES OF NEW MILFORD, and wrote, co-produced the online dating comedy LOCK, LOAD, LOVE. He's also written for the Alex Simmons comics project RACE AGAINST TIME, and the comic strip "Blackjack: Call to Duty".
