EVAN MACK is the composer and librettist of Angel of the Amazon which premiered in May 2011 by Encompass New Opera Theatre at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City and has been released worldwide by Albany Records. His opera, Beach and Moan, is the 2013 winner of Atlanta Opera's 24-hour Opera Project. His second opera, The Secret of Luca, has been workshopped across the country and was premiered by Fresno State Opera Theatre in 2014. He is published with Hal Leonard and Alfred Music. Mack’s latest opera is an adaptation of the best-selling novel Roscoe, by Pulitzer prize-winning author William Kennedy. Evan was a 2014 composing fellow at the John Duffy Composers Institute and a resident artist at Yaddo. As an acclaimed pianist, he has toured all over the United States, Barcelona, and South Africa as a champion of American Piano Music. Evan holds a B.Mus from Vanderbilt University and a M.M and DMA in Piano Performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College- Conservatory of Music. He is an assistant professor of piano at Skidmore College. For more info, visit www.EvanMack.com JOSHUA McGUIRE is Senior Lecturer in Musicianship at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, where he teaches courses in Musicianship as well as Meditation for Musicians. As a concert guitarist, McGuire is widely in demand as a performer of new music. Praised for his “gently expressive, noble sound,” (The Cincinnati Enquirer) McGuire has presented recitals in the United States as well as abroad at the Seminari e Festival di Primavera in Imperia, Italy and the Museo del Chopo in Mexico City. McGuire is also an active writer, having penned the libretto for two full-length operas, The Secret of Luca (based on the novel by Ignazio Silone) and Roscoe (based on the novel by Pulitzer Prize winner William Kennedy), with music by Evan Mack. He is also the author of The Secret of Music: a look at the listening life, a collection of nonfiction essays on music and mindfulness. In 2014, McGuire was a resident artist at Yaddo.
