Synopsis

Who ever expected anxiety to take center stage in the second half of life? Aren’t we supposed to be calm, peaceful, content, joyful and wise once we reach 50 and beyond? Yet, here we are dragging a basket load of anxieties with us from our youth along with a bucket full of worries over “What’s next?” into our Golden Years. When we were young we worried if our paycheck would stretch until the end of the month, now we worry if our retirement will stretch as far as we need. In the past we worried if the kids would catch the chicken pox; now we worry the shingles might catch us. Some times our worries prevent us from enjoying those golden years. We might be clinging to regrets or “if onlys” of our past. We might be focused on future worries like “what ifs”, or wishful thinking like, “Will I ever be able to……?” If we continue to try to change the past with our “if only” regrets or try to control the future with our hope, we will be filled with anxiety, tension and fear. Since more than 11% of adults over 55 suffer from anxiety disorders and there are shortages of therapists working with these “Baby Boomers,” we need some solutions for how to prosper and thrive in this second half of life. Now. If you are over 50, and have a bucket list but can’t remember where you put it, start another and put this book at the top. This fun and easy to read guide from a psychotherapist who has had her own share of anxiety will allow you to find self acceptance and joy even with any worry or anxiety you may have. You will be able to let go of past regrets and worry less about all those “what ifs” we can’t control. Instead of just fleeting pleasure you can find lasting joy.
