À propos de l'auteur

Dr. Walter Roberts is a faculty member in the Department of Counseling and Student Personnel at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He has more than 30 years of experience as a public school teacher, school counselor, licensed professional counselor in private practice and higher education faculty member. His primary research has been in school violence reduction and he has consulted across the United States with teachers, administrators, mental health professionals, parents and community leaders on strategies for dealing with bullying.

Long before others were talking about the seriousness of bullying in schools, Roberts was in the field addressing the issue. His research, consulting and advocacy have had a profound impact on bringing national visibility to bullying and to the collective responsibility that all of society (including schools, parents, students and bystanders) shares to prevent harassment and violence in schools.

Roberts focuses on helping adults and communities understand the roles they play in reducing bullying and creating more civil and safe environments for all children. A frequent source on the topic for media across North America, Roberts has been a consultant with investigative news reports revealing the depths of bullying behaviors on unsupervised playgrounds in Midwestern American schools. A tireless advocate for children, Roberts testifies regularly before local, state, and national legislative bodies in support of policies and laws that will increase school safety.

In 2012 he was appointed co-chair of Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton′s Task Force on the Prevention of School Bullying. The 15-member group was picked from a pool of more than 80 individuals and represent a variety of professions. Also in 2012 he was recognized as a Twin Cities nonprofit′s outstanding educator
