This is believed to be one of the last two tragedies written by Shakespeare, along with Antony and Cleopatra, sometime between 1605 and 1608. It is not one of his better known plays, but has seen more popularity in recent years, and has recently been produced as a major motion picture in a modern adaptation of the story. The narrative is about pride, and the destruction that can come as a result, with the pride of Caius Marcius Coriolanus leading him to exile and eventually to betrayal of his own people. The story is also about mercy, though the interweaving web of loyalty he has spun about himself makes it impossible to escape the consequences of his choices.
