As a 30-plus year veteran of the USAF and USAR, in both enlisted and officer ranks, and across several career fields, I can attest to the fact that I have been privileged to meet and serve with the finest Americans from this vast nation. In this novel, I seek to honor those who gave their firm and unreserved loyalty to our flag. Each soldier who answers the call, be they in combat arms, or in any of the multiple support units, serves with their heart and soul. The three individuals described in this novel are from the latter vast component, and are composites of those who participated in the greatest logistic operation of all time, Desert Storm. Those they left behind are also serving … Families are also affected unalterably for the only constant in life is change. And as Milton said “They also serve who only stand and wait.” All soldiers are immutably changed by their experience, and the world they left behind is not the one they will find when they return. All of them experience a type of PTSD, characterized by flashbacks to the events which have elicited strong emotional reactions in their lives, both from the war zone, and from their entire lives. As the daughter of a career soldier, and descendant of generations of men and women who have served before me, there is no higher calling.
