'Easy reading about writing poetry' is a great descriptor for this book on writing poetry. Aimed at young writers who want to explore poetry as an outlet for their talents, the author describes the process in plain language, avoiding the trap of being too esoteric for average readers. Several poetic terms are defined by necessity, but there is no excursion into the bewildering world of types of poetry. Examples of poetry and hints for writing are based on free verse or blank verse, the styles of many contemporary poets. Several exercises are included in the body of the text and appendix. Writing in an engaging style, the author puts young writers at ease as they approach poetry for the first time or continue to expand their horizons in the world of literature.

Ronald J. Jorgenson (Dr. Charles A. Stone) was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He attended Dominican College, and earned doctoral degrees from Marquette University and The Johns Hopkins University. He served on the faculties of Medical University of South Carolina, the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. During his academic career, he published hundreds of articles in the medical literature and contributed to or edited several medical textbooks. While residing in Charleston, SC, he introduced Dr. Charles A. Stone as the author of a restaurant review column. In Dr. Stone’s name he has published poetry in medical journals, in poetry journals and in various anthologies. He has edited an anthology of poetry (Preoccupied with Austin); and authored a nonfiction satire (Bureaucracy for the Innocent). He has won prizes for poetry, and has earned three poet laureate titles and one Pushcart nomination. He serves on the Board of Austin Poets International (the parent of the Austin International Poetry Festival). He is the father of two and grandfather of seven. www.writingsbystone@wordpress.com
