Synopsis

Every educator knows that students who have an extensive vocabulary are the school winners. These high vocabulary students pass the “tests” with flying colors. They read well and are likely to write well or certainly are more fluent than those students who have limited vocabularies. One of the issues, however, is how to raise the vocabulary levels of those students who never seem to move beyond the “basics” even when they are given vocabulary lessons. One problem, among several, is the sheer boredom of “going home to study ten vocabulary words and know them for the next test.” This assignment rarely enhances word knowledge. It’s time for a new approach and I’ve named it DRAMA IN THE CLASSROOM.
