In this book, Gray addresses how our personality becomes distorted and discusses “the (invisible) chair” we are all conditioned by – the metaphorical load that we carry as a consequence of misfortunes or traumas we have suffered. Though we feel that others can’t see or share the pain that lives deep inside us, it has a scarily strong influence on how we behave. While the essence of who we are, with its characteristic potential for greatness, doesn’t disappear, it can get smothered. The author explains that she found her essence on the other side of dark moments after having worked through them rather than avoid them, as so many of us tend to do. She believes that we are capable of so much more than we let ourselves accomplish, especially once we realize what incredible rewards can be reaped from “turning on the light and moving towards the door.”

Emma Jayne Gray is half English and half Spanish. She was born in Madrid and grew up in Portugal, Libya, the United States, Spain, Mexico and Hungary. She speaks four languages and has a degree in Social and Cultural Studies as well as having done courses in Metaphysics, Living Marxism and Social Anthropology. And she’s working on her chair.
