Synopsis

This book looks at how medical mission events, a popular mission ministry in the Philippines, can be utilized effectively as a starting point for long-term church-based outreach for community transformation. The book notes the problems of medical mission events, especially in the areas of long-term effectivity, efficiency, and appropriateness, and suggests ways that appropriate partnership between local churches and outside NGOs can overcome some of these potential problems. While the research done was based on medical mission work in the Philippines, it is believed that the findings apply well in many Two-Thirds World nations. Additionally, the underlying principles can be applied to a number of short-term ministry projects.

À propos de l?auteur

Robert (Bob) Munson, along with his wife Celia have served as missionaries with the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, in the Philippines since 2004. In 2005, they were part of a team that founded Dakilang Pag-Ibig DIADEM Ministries, an NGO that carries out medical mission events in the Philippines. In 2009, they cofounded Bukal Life Care, a pastoral care center based in Baguio City. Robert earned his Doctor of Theology degree from Asia Baptist Graduate Theological Seminary in 2012, and presently serves as a professor of cultural anthropology and Christian missions with that institution as well as Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary. Bob and Celia have three children: Joel, Rebekah, and Esther.
