Synopsis

What does it mean to be Jewish? Is Judaism strictly a religion, or has it become a culture? Can it have elements of both? What is the role of Judaism on the modern world’s complicated stage?

Jews of all backgrounds, from the orthodox to the secular, are asking these hard questions. Jeremy Rosen, a rabbi who leads a Persian Jewish community in Manhattan, is a thought leader in this constantly evolving dialogue. His new book, Commitment and Controversy: Living in Two Worlds, compiles his blog posts, essays, and papers to offer readers a comprehensive picture of his insights on modern Jewish life for the very first time.

Rosen’s examination of current affairs is committed to Judaism’s history and tradition while pushing the envelope of dogma and doctrine. Jews of all backgrounds will find wisdom, comfort, and guidance in his eloquent yet down-to-earth words. Rosen himself understands the struggles that come with balancing modern and traditional worlds. But by embracing both commitment and controversy, he believes that we can thrive within the dynamic nature of today’s international Judaism.
