What I’m about to reveal to you is the greatest illusion of all time. An illusion so captivating, so compelling, so believable that it seems real. So real that you believe it is real. And once it becomes real for you it can ensnare you like an insect trapped in a spider’s web, you can see no way out and it becomes a prison, a prison from which there appears to be no escape. Yet all these things, however real they may seem, are but illusions. This is from A Course in Miracles. I call this place, this prison, The Land of Insanity, Illusions and Lies, for short the land of IIL (For our purpose here, pronounced ILL). The Course goes on to tells us that, This does not appear to be the case, for the manifestations of this world seem real indeed. The land of IIL is the world we live in, from which there appears to be no escape. This causes us to feel like the world is against us and prevents us from living the life we’re meant to live. The good news is, there’s a plan in place to aid us in our escape. This plan can be found in the Course in Miracles and presented as an escape plan*. Ed delves into the teachings of A Course in Miracle pamphlet, Psychotherapy: Purpose, Process and Practice, offering his view from his perspective and experience as a psychotherapist. First revealing a model provided to help us understand the human condition brought about by the illusions of this world that can trap and imprison us. Then revealed is the escape plan given to us that leads to freedom. This book is an attempt to present how the ACIM teachings emphasize, we are first spiritual beings, how our human thought system blocks our awareness of this and is the cause of our earthly struggles in which we feel stuck and trapped in our reality. “I envisioned a process that leads from the escape of illusions that hold us back, to leading the life we were meant to live.” Although written from a psychotherapist’s perspective, as another viewpoint for psychotherapist when it comes to addressing the spiritual nature of those seeking their help. It can serve as a format for students of ACIM to enhance their study and understanding of its teachings to aide in furthering their spiritual growth. For others searching for a way to understand their human experience, and perhaps a resource to inspire desired changes, the interpretations offered of the ACIM teachings will deliver powerful insights that can be of great value to those seekers of truth and self-discovery. Most importantly, I wanted to show the realization brought about as we make our way through the process of escape and discovery that the path to freedom to live the life we’re meant to live, is a giving and receiving, the miracle, that moves us all towards our eventual freedom when we embrace our spiritual nature.
