Synopsis

At age eighteen Yvonne sets out to build a home from trees on eighty acres she bought on an Oregon mountainside. Log by log she creates a cabin and heals from an orphaned past, finding a new family in the forest and with people in a valley named John Day. This true story of survival puts an honest and gritty face on the fantasy of living alone in the forest. It is My Side of the Mountain and Into the Wild, with a touch of Pilgrim at Tinker Creek and expands the timeline of a young woman confronting herself in the wilderness. Babe in the Woods, includes original artwork and ledgers, further authenticating the construction of this three-story log cabin, built by hand from trees on land which Yvonne still owns today. It is the first in a three book series about her relationship with woodsy things, in a place of peace and quiet beauty and repose - a mountainside in Oregon.

À propos de l'auteur

Yvonne Wakefield is a Fulbright Memorial scholar, an artist and author who holds a doctorate in Human Organizational Systems, which has little to do with log cabin building. Her first book, Suitcase Filled with Nails: Lessons Learned from Teaching Art in Kuwait (Booktrope Editions, April 2013) chronicles the six years she taught fine art to Muslim women. Like building a log cabin she had no experience in the Middle East but wanted to experience teaching there and was determined to do it.
