Synopsis

Oma is a tri-racial orphan (black, white, Cherokee) who is adopted by the Lumbee Indians in southeastern North Carolina. At age 18 she strikes out on her own to find her "roots." It is a journey that will take her west to Asheville, the Cherokee Reservation and north to Boone and Banner Elk, NC. Traveling on foot, known to few, she becomes the legend known as The Blue Ridge Walker. Hers is a story of grace endurance in the face of prejudice and brutality. She is legendary no only as part of Appalachlan oral history, but as a woman whose spirit is never broken and who never forgotten by those who meet her.
