Synopsis

This TIMELINE of religious movements in 20th century America tracks American church history in 6-year steps. It highlights the conflict of old Fundamentalism with newer Modernism, and the emergence of Evangelicalism and the Ecumenical Movement. Related movements include the rise of Pentecostalism and the resultant Charismatic Movement, the founding of the World Council of Churches and inclusion of the Eastern Orthodox Churches, and warming of the Roman Catholic Church in interaction with other Christian movements. The 20th century was the fulcrum of major changes in all sectors of global Christianity, influencing future decades and centuries. The work illustrates a more detailed commentary on this key phase of American church history, available as a companion volume.

À propos de l?auteur

Dr. Bill Smallman was raised in a mainline Protestant denomination until he became a born-again Evangelical believer in a Fundamentalist church. This allows perspectives from within various traditions and an irenic spirit in tracking their conflicted histories. After an early career as an aerospace engineer, Bill completed seminary and served in Brazil as a missionary and then as a mission administrator. With later degrees in Communications and Missiology (D.Miss. from TEDS) he was also an adjunct professor of Missiology in several Baptist seminaries. Publications include Missions in a New Millennium (as co-editor), Able to Teach Others Also (2001), and A Missions Toolkit for Local Churches (2014).
