The analogies are set up to foster predictive skills, which are essential to reading success. The student makes a prediction of the answer based on the first three words of the analogy. A hint is given for additional help. After making the prediction, the student turns the page to learn the answer to the analogy question. This immediate feedback turns learning English into a rewarding game. Analogies are important because they influence how we read, think and write about the world.

À propos de l'auteur

Janet Cady Zebrack taught primary classes to Native Americans learning English on the Zuni Pueblo reservation in New Mexico, and the Navajo boarding school in Ramah, New Mexico. This graduate of the University of Southern California received a grant from the state of Nevada for teaching science in kindergarten. She was a lead teacher for students from the University of Nevada, Reno, and from Sierra Nevada College. She was selected to teach classes for the annual conference of "Nevada Reading Week." One of her analogy books has been translated into Lao by the former project manager for the non-profit literacy organization Room to Read in Laos. One thousand copies will be placed in schools all over Laos. The book is written in Lao and English to help Laotians learn English.
