Synopsis

The author invites the reader to come along on an adventure. The journey is frightening and often sad. A 4,000 mile flight from evil aggressors will lead the reader from Frankfurt, Germany in 1938 to Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 1945. Ultimately, the family emerges triumphant, highlighting the resilience and the strength of ordinary people to overcome unimaginable challenges.

À propos de l'auteur

Dr. Palm, a retired New York City psychologist, used August each year to travel with her husband to many countries in Europe and Asia. Why did they never go to Germany? Why did they route their trips not to land at a German airport? These questions haunted her and kept her from dealing with her feelings about Germany. She joined an organization called Generations After, a group of adult children of Holocaust survivors in Phoenix, Arizona. The group members shared their stories of growing up with parents who had survived the Holocaust. Dr. Palm was born in Newark, New Jersey, months before the Nazis deported her grandparents from Germany to Poland. Gratefully, when she was eight years old and the war was over, the family was reunited. Friends and family visited and the harrowing stories of their survival were told and retold. Dr. Palm began to understand how her parents' fears of Germany were transmitted to her. She was then able to research the stories about the Holocaust she had heard when she was a child and to travel to Germany to follow her family's footsteps before, during and after the war. Dr. Palm is the author of the memoir titled Put That Knife Away - Alzheimer's, Marriage and My Transformation from Wife to Caregiver. She divides her time between New York City and Mesa, Arizona.
