Synopsis

Graham Greene and The Question of Faith is an interesting read. Elizabeth AyukAko examines Greene’s major novels in light of existing theoretical paradigms on the question of faith. She builds on these arguments with clarity and insight to x-ray the anxiety and anguish that characterize Greene’s protagonists. She considers the complex relationship between sin and human nature as a fundamental source of humankind’s distrust of any ‘bethlehemic’ messianism. She conceptualizes the issue of faith within the perspective of the modern skeptical temperament, leaving the reader with the belief in a rather humane but mistrustful metaphysical justice.

Elizabeth T. AYUKAKO, author, is a Senior lecturer of English Literature at Higher Teachers Training College (E. N. S) Maroua, the University of Maroua. Her research interests have been on British Modern Literature and Feminist and Post-Feminist issues. Dr. AYUKAKO earned her Ph.D in English Literature from the University of Yaoundé in 2007. She also holds a Diploma in English Didactics from E. N. S Yaounde. In 2008 she was recruited in E.N.S Bambili, University of Bamenda. In 2010 she was appointed Chief of Service in charge of Teaching Staff of that Institution, a position she currently holds.
