Affectionately known simply as “Ray ‘n Ruth,” together they are a true example of a Biblical Marriage. Their capacity for “oneness” with God and one another has been developed through great trials and difficulties, such as Ruth’s debilitating paralysis from polio over 60 years ago and Ray’s experiences in the South Pacific during World War II. But through it all, they have learned to rejoice continually through trusting Christ in their sufferings as they have seen God produce peace, hope, joy, perseverance, character, more hope, and love from the Holy Spirit in their lives (Rom. 5:1-5). Their story bears repeating.

Alan Cross pastors Gateway Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Born in New Orleans, and raised in Picayune, Mississippi, Alan graduated with a degree in education from Mississippi State University and holds a master’s of divinity degree with an emphasis in intercultural studies from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, California.
