The author is a seasoned traveller with experience of nearly all the places and situations in the story. He worked in newspapers, radio and TV news as a reporter/presenter and documentary maker. Michael J. Rowbottom, better known as Mike, has covered politics, conflict and the grind of what makes up daily life in many parts of the world. He takes an interest in current affairs, music - he's a rock and jazz guitarist and singer - and drama. Mike regularly reviews theatre for papers including the Stage as well as writing plays for local non-professional groups to perform. He lives in South Oxfordshire in The UK with his wife.
