À propos de l'auteur

Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915) was an American writer, publisher, lecturer, businessman, and founder of the Roycroft artisan community in East Aurora, New York. A colourful and commercially gifted figure of the American Arts and Crafts movement, Hubbard built a public career around essays, lectures, books, pamphlets, and periodicals that mixed practical advice, aphorism, satire, moral exhortation, and entrepreneurial self-fashioning. His magazine The Philistine became the original home of A Message to Garcia, the short essay that made his name known to millions of readers.Hubbard's work often joined business culture, personal responsibility, self-improvement, and a vigorous belief in individual initiative. Although his style could be blunt, paradoxical, and deliberately provocative, he had a remarkable gift for producing memorable phrases and compact arguments that circulated far beyond ordinary literary audiences. A Message to Garcia, written in 1899 and widely reprinted in pamphlet form, became one of the most successful motivational essays of its era. Hubbard died in 1915 aboard the RMS Lusitania, but his influence continued through the Roycroft legacy and through the long life of his best-known work in business, educational, military, and inspirational settings.
