Christian tradition draws its understanding of the last days of Jesus by conflating and harmonising the four canonical gospels. In doing so it creates a false picture which owes much more to Christian theology than to history. Mark’s narrative on which the other three accounts are based is itself heavily influenced by the competing theologies and political allegiances of its time. It combines a tripartite central narrative with other traditions and individual stories to create a continuous account.
Revd Huggett analyses and comments on these separate narratives and looks behind the storyline to discover the underlying historical events. His conclusions are startling and significant, enabling the reader to understand more clearly both the Christian tradition and the events on which it is founded.

Christopher Huggett studied Theology at the University of Hull from the sixties to the eighties under Professor Anthony Hanson, who became not only Christopher's mentor but his friend. He studied at the university further with Dr Lionel North in the nineties. Having trained as a teacher, he taught Religious Education, History and Latin in both state and private schools, before attending Lincoln Theological College, where he trained for the Anglican priesthood. After almost thirty years with the Church of England, working in a variety of city, town and village parishes across the north of England and specialising in lay training and tourist ministry, he retired in 2010 and now lives in East Yorkshire with his wife, Alexandra. As well as publishing a number of works of fiction and compositions of classical music, he has published numerous theological writings, all with Haystacks Publishing.
