This book is for the youth of Africa, to help you face the challenges of today and mobilise you to believe that you can rise above any situation that life throws at you. Today’s Africa is an exciting but tragic part of the world. So many of Africa’s people are poorly fed, poorly educated, and poorly governed. Violence, greed, corruption, and tribalism are rampant. What is going in our beloved continent? Africa is in a mess. However, something can be done—and we can do it. It is time to question taboos and superstitions, to lift our society out of decay and be instruments of change. It is time to stop surrendering to the corrupt demands of societal pressures. Africa is known as the “dark continent” and as unproductive. It is high time to motivate ourselves, to stop trying to please others and listen to our own God-given conscience. It is time to stop blaming circumstances. We cannot rely on society, on churches, on family. Lies have crept into our church doctrines and saturated our culture. It is long past time to let these go and walk away from teachings that have misled us. We must purge ourselves of the false ideas and beliefs passed down from our ancestors—by turning to the grace of God, wherein we learn the value of every living thing. If we want our life to have meaning, we need to live with a generous soul. With a generous heart, all things are possible: You walk shoulders high, a spring in your step, a smile on your face. And you are the difference in the world that makes it a brighter place. It is time to wake up. To stand up and be what God made us to be—unique individuals.
