Since the early 1900's, people have been fascinated by the art of motion pictures. If you ask anyone what their favorite movie is, they will likely have six or seven different movies that spring into mind immediately, and can name another twenty or so if given a few moments to think about their response. We watch movies on multiple different forms of media, from television, to computers, and more recently on phones and tablets. But, throughout the past 100 years or so, people have been fascinated by going to the movie theaters, sitting with strangers, dodging floors covered in dried sticky soda, and littered with popcorn and candy wrappers. For many, going to the movies has become such a part of life that we center some of our life events around going to the movies. How many couples had dinner and a movie as their first date? How many adults remember going to see a particular movie with their parents, and having nostalgia when they bring their own children to the movies to share that experience. Despite the fact that there are far easier ways to obtain films, we still go to the movies in droves. With box office revenue appearing to increase year after year, there seems to be no stopping our love of going to the cinema. Film becomes an event, something that you talk with friends and coworkers about, even more so than television series and books. This book is the first in a series of containing my random, unrelated thoughts on film in general, and mostly filled with reviews of films that I have enjoyed (or alternatively was made to suffer through). I have tried to sprinkle each essay or review with humor, in addition to insights into the making of films, and the impact of movies on society in general. Book Cover Created with Canva.
