Darlene has been telling stories through her books for many years and she has discovered the power of story telling with these LGBTQI accounts. She is a minister of an uncomfortable truth as the Love of God is lived out in wounded lives. Once a minister in the Pentecostal Foursquare church she knows first hand what it feels like to be on the margins of a faith community who excluded her because of her sexual orientation. This is her latest of over a dozen books including Snapshots of History through the Lavender Keyhole; a Miracle Woman, the Naomi Harvey story; Longing for Love-an African American Christian Lesbian story; and A Christian Lesbian Journey. Darlene is a former leader of the Ex-gay group, Exodus International. In 2007 she issued an apology at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, with Michael Bussee an original co founder of Exodus, and Jeremy Marks former president of Exodus Europe, which was aired by CNN. She was one of the many who fought to have reparative therapy banned and called for all ex-gay groups including NARTH to be held accountable for the harm they inflicted on others. Darlene is a national speaker and ministers to countless individuals who continue to deal with the harm they have suffered due to the shame and rejection received from the church, their families and groups that continue to exclude them as sinful and "less-than". From a place of loving acceptance, she boldly proclaims that everyone is a child of God, chosen, loved and accepted for who they are, created as they are, and celebrated by our Creator. No one is excluded, and we are all Precious to the Divine heart of a living Christ. She is a member of First Congregational Church of San Jose, California and embraces a Progressive Christianity view of the Scripture.
