This book is a call for action. There are several social issues that are creating serious friction in our society. The scientific facts to clear up these issues are available and completely valid. Funding for public education is needed. The science is not new. It is decades old. It is also not science “opinion” only science “understanding”. You do not need an opinion to know that two and two are four or that the earth revolves around the sun, only understanding of facts. One issue is the need for recognition of the tremendous confidence one can place in the large and competent infrastructure of the science community that supports the facts. The Catholic Church’s decision to accept the science of evolution came more from this confidence building factor than from the facts of the science itself. Another example is the great opportunity that parents have to greatly increase their child’s intrinsic learning ability by understanding normal parental programming through healthy infant instincts. This book makes the case that the obligation falls to the atheists and humanist community to develop and fund the programs to provide the public education. This science education focus is clearly a different path from more strident, aggressive approaches taken by a number of atheist organizations. The science path also provides for better understanding and respect for the strongly religious and for cooperative programs for the good of society. The book also makes the case that: 1. The atheist/humanist position is not an opinion, a philosophy, a religious alternative, nor anti-religious. It is an “understanding” of scientific facts. 2. There are science based reasons to understand why people are strongly and immutably religious and deserve respect and friendship. To debate with them is cruel and unnecessary. 3. The atheists and humanists occupy a “moral high ground” to share with the religious community in programs for the benefit of society. The big five scientific issues or challenges are: a. The scientific basis for the atheist understanding. b. The scientific basis for the humanist movement. c. The true biological-science nature of GLBT individuals d. The basis and scope of the science of evolution e. The scientific understanding of how we were programmed, how we program our children and how deep and strongly in our sub-conscious this programming resides.
