Synopsis

The inspiration for the short story, “Moments”, as you may have already guessed, came from a bird “stuck in mid-air”. In my half-a-century-plus-three life span, I’ve always been fascinated by certain aspects of nature and its little oddities. One of those oddities is how birds, at times, can be flapping their little wings to beat the band and still flying in one particular area, seemingly stuck. To me, it was a reminder of what Christian recording artist Mark Hall spoke about once at a Casting Crowns concert that my wife and I had attended with some friends in Lexington, Kentucky. He talked about, basically, the majority of his life, he had lived fifteen minutes in the future. It was one of those “Oh Me, but Amen”, moments for me. Described me to the proverbial “tee”. Always thinking about what I had to do next, where I was going next, my next appointment, my next obligation, etc. Mark’s point was that, by the help of GOD, we need to learn how to live in the moment. I can honestly say that I’ve tried to do better, but I still find myself living in the future (or the past) more than in the moment. My hero in the story, like a lot of us other fallible humans, had to learn the hard way that planning, scheming, and racing toward the future wasn’t the answer. As Micah Tyler, another Christian artist, says in his current radio single, “Never Been A Moment”, to the LORD, “There’s never been a moment I was not held inside your arms.” Well said, Micah. LORD, teach us to live in each moment. If we do, I guarantee that the moments will be more precious to us in the end. GOD Bless You! RC
