Synopsis

When the ingenious Hugo made it his mission to save the souls and lives of his fellow humans, he is not like most sanctimonious people out there. So, when he tries to stop a massacre, he is only protecting the sanctity of life and preventing the tainting of a soul.

However, his self-sacrificing act ignites a haunting impulse that sees him blazing a path through life in pursuit of a cause against evil, which raises mixed feelings and questions his beliefs. But who is the searching soul to himself in a conflict with his world that mirrors man's pilgrimage through life?

Is Hugo a "Man of God", a sociopath, a psychopath, a revolutionary, a missionary or a lost soul?

"The Fire and Ice Legend" proceeds "The Hunger Fire", and it precedes "Fateful Ties" in the short story collection entitled "Me Before Them".
