She went to the finest prep schools on the west coast. But then - betrayal shattered her world. Her father had an affair, emptied their bank account, and fled with his mistress. Evelyn and her mother were forced to leave her home on the hill and move to the Tenderloin District. Bruno Vic Vizcarra was born into a life of violence. His father, a respected San Francisco police officer, was murdered before Bruno’s seventh birthday. With the death of his father, Bruno’s mother turned to alcohol forcing him to grow up “Tenderloin Tough”. As he strives to hold the high morals of his father, the gangs are constantly attempting to pull him down. Evelyn and Bruno are students at Drake Middle School. The teachers are not the ones in charge at this school. It’s the gangs who rule here. Everyone else is just a pawn, a victim hoping to avoid the threatening eyes of someone trying to move up in the ranks. Red has long, crimson hair that he wears in a ponytail. He’s the only man in the Tenderloin that the gangs seem to fear. No one is quite sure why, but Red seems untouchable. He offers his protection to Evelyn, Bruno, and a handful of students from Drake Middle. No more will the Gangs of the Tenderloin bother them. All they have to do is join his gang. The teens think that they have found a savior, but Red could end up being something much worse?
