His childhood was filled with terrifying visits from beyond, information he doesn't share with the dating pool. Sandra and Carrie are divorcees/tandem daters who respond to Dennis as a lark. They meet at a horror convention, where some of Dennis's old fears manifest. An unplanned visit to a rough-around-the-edges bar leads to a dispute. Dennis is ditched and meets Jimmy McDonald, a regular who takes a malicious interest in the out-of-place visitor. Dennis is "rescued" by Carrie, but their chance at a meaningful connection is threatened by Jimmy and whatever awaits in Dennis's basement. Companionship, it seems, is not easy when you are with monsters. With Monsters was a six-time screenplay competition finalist/semi-finalist.
