THE STORYThis is the story of James and Kate Alexander during the early 1980’s. They both decided to sell their shares in a large public company that James had headed for a number of years, thus quitting the ‘rat race’ to change their previous very busy and stressful lives. Kate who was a senior editor for a publishing company was also keen to have a change and James had the idea of making a living as an author. To do this, they took a sabbatical to the West Indies and chartered a yacht to get away from the world, relax and create an environment conducive to creativity. It did not quite work the way they planned. After the first few months in the Caribbean, they fell into the charter business rather by mistake, sailing a large luxury yacht around the Leeward and the Windward Islands pandering to wealthy and sometimes unreasonable charter guests, as a skipper and cook. They experienced what it was like to deal with the rich set. A group they had recently been part of, and then they met Laurie…After two years of chartering, Kate bought a share in a large restaurant, hoping to have an easier life on land. That did not work quite as planned either. The story starts with the first charter, and then a flashback to how it all began.
