Synopsis
About the Author Philip Armitage is an author from West Yorkshire. He draws on his experiences from a predominantly working class background to delve into the emotional barriers erected between the classes as well as the physical ones. His distinctive and highly descriptive style echoes his working class roots with an interesting take on the emotional values and mind-set of the characters. This is his first story about situations and a way of life that he has known or experienced through his career, principally working in people’s homes in and around his home town of Huddersfield. All the characters are fictional as well as the story line, but none the less there is more depth in reality than in fiction. About the Book This story is about two people who live in the same village, deeply entrenched in their own world. A “needs must” situation arises that brings them together. For one its an adventure to learn about someone they know about, but have no in depth idea about. For the other their attitude of ‘who cares’, ‘mind your own business’ is challenged. The question I ask is about the equality of life through their emotions. Brian’s life after the death of his wife, Sandra, was organised to a polished cleanliness, but his emotional strength in adventure had dissipated into a forlorn and weary hangover. That is until Gemma, who fights for survival, introduced herself into his life. The gradual emotional adventure for Brian into a secret life of this seventeen year old had begun, without Gemma’s permission. The battle was on to crack stone-faced Gemma’s secret life. As the dark winter days close in, so will the darkness of human relations envelope them. Their social difference pale to insignificance as they will literally be forced to fight for their lives.
