Synopsis

This film novel is based purely on private versions of oral and written testimonies by key eyewitnesses, both civilians and military personnel—some retired and some still in active service—coupled with extracts from various publications from 1985 to 2011, without any form of addition or subtraction in the process of writing it. AUTHOR’S NOTE Like watching a documentary or telemovie incorporating dramatizations and various flashbacks (similar to “Aircrash Investigation” and the CSI series), these chapters offer a similar style of scene changes, opening with present-day characters (set in 2014) as witnesses tell their stories to contemporary researchers/journalists before shifting back in time to the 1980s and 1990s, providing comprehensive details that dramatize what happened before shifting back to the present as the research/interviews continue back and forth. For mind–visual assistance, I use three pound signs [# # #] to guide you in and out of each of the many flashback transitions. I have written and described all events in this novel in film style and would like to keep my opinion about these events to myself for now, so you can make your reviews as you read through the entire drama, solving the puzzles yourself as the facts unfold before you like a film. I hope you enjoy reading Power Games. Sunny Ache SYNOPSIS Inside information on inglorious official cruelties committed by Nigeria’s high-ranking policy-making soldiers against their fellow Nigerian soldiers during the power games that led to a bloodbath in the 1980s and 1990s remained unknown to the outside world until a team of U.K.- and U.S.-based journalists began playing a wild game, researching three closed cases concerning the assassination of a local journalist who openly criticized the military regime. Two military court martials culminated in guilty verdicts and sentences for the coup plotters, although parts of these events still remain unclear to the people ruled by one incomprehensible military man when his individualized coup succeeded, bringing him to power from 1985 to 1993. -How did he manage to remain an undefeated military leader for eight years, foiling three powerful coup attempts? -Was his childhood best friend, whom he loved like a blood brother, truly involved in one of the coups against him as he claimed and did his decision to execute his best friend by firing squad eliminate his fear of security risk or become a traumatic event for him? The real truths are tremendously difficult to identify with so many coded clues, implying different opinions that rival each other in the minds of everyone who takes a deep and profound examination. [This book is a film novel transcribed without modification from an original screenplay written by Sunny Ache for a motion picture. The mode of transitions within and between chapters and the durations of events are exact replicas of the plotted scenes to be seen on screen.]
