Told from a first-person perspective, this story follows Michael, an average child growing up in rural Pennsylvania, but one who quickly realizes his world is devoid of happiness; finding reality to be dull and uninteresting. Struggling to discover a reason for living as he grows older, Michael thinks back to his happiest moment from childhood, when he watched a free-climber fall from a cliff to their demise. Racked by depression and anger, Michael questions why every other person in the world has a chance of finding happiness, yet he must live in misery. Overcoming what he views as societal pressures, Michael embarks on a path of bloodshed, attempting to bring joy into a world which he finds so boring by hunting those men who work against his moral compass, those he calls “beasts.” Kill after kill; year after year, Michael attempts to preserve his newfound happiness; all while maintaining his friendship with Juliet, a young woman who Michael unwillingly befriended, and evading the police lead by Detective Markus Williams, a man whose intelligence and deductive reasoning appear to be insurmountable.
