After sixty years of journal keeping Janet Shea decided to burn her diaries rather than leave them as a legacy to her children and grandchildren. Before she burned her journals, though, she culled them for the bounty of prayers that were woven throughout, marking and lifting passages of her own life’s journey, her own convictions and contradictions, transforming decades of chosen words into the poems that constitute Prayers of a Roadside Contemplative. Loosely constructed around the framework of the Catholic Mass, Prayers of a Roadside Contemplative offers poems of faith and lack of faith, love, loss and the enduring love of family, all informed and underscored by the poet’s unique and embracing manifestation of her Catholicism.

À propos de l'auteur

Janet Shea received her MFA in Creative Non-Fiction from Spalding University, Louisville, Kentucky in 2006. Her essays, articles, poetry, and short stories have appeared in magazines and newspapers including The Christian Science Monitor, The Witness Magazine, Liguorian, and North Shore Life. She has read her work on Maine Public Radio, MPBN, and has taught writing at Emerson College and Stonehill College. Prayers of a Roadside Contemplative is her first book of poems. She lives with her husband of sixty years in Tenants Harbor, Maine, where she spends her afternoons reading and writing. In the meantime she welcomes the visits of family and friends.
