Each daily portion expands the thoughts from a verse or a portion of a verse to unfold the wisdom it contains, beginning from the beginning of the book of Proverbs. Each daily portion is also enhanced through a short original poem.

Phil Young MD is a third generation missionary to the Lahu people. His grandfather, William Young, opened up much of the Shan States of Burma, arriving seven years after this territory came under the jurisdiction of British, arriving in Burma in 1892 and eventually reaching a Texas sized area. My father, growing up in Burma, translated the New Testament into two different languages, Lahu and Wa. I was born in Kengtung, Burma. At the outbreak of World War II, as a four year old I fled the Japanese occupation of Burma, along with my mother, new born sister and a six year old brother, first fleeing into India. With the Japanese threatening to attack India, we returned to the US by ship around the continent of Africa. In 1947 we returned to the Burma-China border area, living under the communist regime in China for nine months following their takeover of China in 1949 until we had to flee their wrath into Burma. Schooling in Thailand (nine months), south India (2years) followed. In the US, I graduated from the University of Nebraska, College of Medicine, then served in the US navy for two years, the first off the coast of Vietnam. I married Ruth Units in 1965 while still in the service and have three children. Our son has followed us into missionary work and has his own mission board called “Divine Inheritance” which centers on disadvantaged children. On my discharge from the navy, I spent a year of seminary at Bible Baptist Seminary in Los Angeles, took a surgery residency in Denver and then entered missionary service in the Philippines where we founded a small mission hospital on the island of Palawan under the Association of Baptist for World Evangelism. Health problems brought us back to the US where we became experts on the function of the thyroid. In 2004 we moved to the Golden Triangle of Thailand and began working with the Lahu people in a four country area trying to train a group of individuals to reach their own people.
