Synopsis

Charlie is a child who always asks "why?" A curious child in a remarkably beautiful natural world, he lives with his family on a small coastal island rich with life-birds, fish, wolves, cougars, trees, a garden, and the watchful owl. In this idyllic world, he is full of wonder. But when his family relocates to the city, he struggles to connect with this sense of curiosity in school and church and amongst other children. As he ages, he returns to the ocean, and works on a fishing boat, which ultimately brings him back to the island he'd left so long ago. He brings his own children, and then grandchildren, to stay and immerse themselves in the magic.

À propos de l?auteur

Edward A. Safarik has been immersed in the world of commercial fishing in coastal British Columbia and Alaska all of his life. He has travelled most of the world, to both the light and dark places, and has grappled with pain and experienced great joy. He has a BA in Economics and a law degree from UBC (but don't hold that against him!). He has been involved in marine ecosystem and biosphere science, and he has an extensive background in genetics as well as conflict resolution. His six grandkids inspired this book, which is for all the "Charlies" in the world.

Edward, his wife, Diana, and their Labrador retriever, Niña, split their time between Cortes Island, Whistler, and Vancouver.
