Synopsis

Discover the rich tapestry of Christ’s coming woven throughout the entire Old Testament in There Shone a Holy Light, a compelling Advent devotional by Mitchell L. Chase. This unique exploration takes readers on a 25–day journey through the ancient stories, prophecies, and patterns that pointed to the birth of Jesus centuries before that holy night in Bethlehem.

From Adam to Solomon, each daily reading illuminates how God carefully crafted His redemptive plan through unexpected characters and seemingly ordinary events. Chase masterfully reveals how figures like Noah, Joseph, Moses, and David weren’t just historical characters—they were living prophecies of the Messiah to come. Through careful biblical analysis and engaging storytelling, readers will discover fresh insights about how Jesus fulfilled and exceeded every Old Testament foreshadowing.

Perfect for both personal reflection and family worship during the Advent season, this devotional helps modern readers understand Christmas in its full biblical context. Each chapter builds anticipation for Christ’s coming by revealing another layer of God’s intricate plan, showing how even the smallest details of Old Testament narratives pointed to the ultimate gift of the incarnation.

Whether you’re a seasoned Bible student or new to exploring Scripture’s interconnected stories, There Shone a Holy Light will deepen your appreciation for God’s perfect plan of salvation. Chase’s accessible writing style makes complex theological concepts clear and applicable, while maintaining scholarly depth and biblical faithfulness.

This Christmas season, let the ancient promises of Scripture illuminate your celebration of Christ’s birth. Through these daily readings, you’ll gain a renewed sense of wonder at how God orchestrated history to prepare the way for the arrival of His Son, the true and better fulfillment of every Old Testament type and shadow.
