In the years that followed he worked unceasingly for the betterment of Har vard. In 1871, he reorganized the Med ical School; in 1872, it was established that degrees at Law School should be conferred only after examinations; the same year, the graduate department was instituted; in 1874, he established examinations for admission to college.
