Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of corundum, a remarkable mineral that, in its various forms, includes rubies and sapphires and is second only to diamond in hardness. Though corundum has many industrial applications, the author focuses on its occurrence, distribution, exploitation, and uses as an abrasive. The author provides a detailed study of the geological formations and petrographical details of the nepheline and associated alkaline syenites with which the corundum deposits are directly associated. Drawing upon field studies and laboratory experiments, the author presents a comprehensive analysis of corundum within this geological context. The book also explores the history of corundum mining in America, from its serendipitous discovery in the 1800s to the establishment of the largest corundum mining industry in the world in Canada. The author discusses the various mining and milling techniques, and offers insights into the challenges and innovations in processing corundum. This book is a valuable resource for geologists, mineralogists, and anyone interested in the fascinating history and industrial applications of this remarkable mineral. It provides a comprehensive overview of corundum, its geological origins, mining techniques, and industrial significance, offering a deeper understanding of this precious and versatile material. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
