The author argues this would lead to less money being available for prize money, potentially causing racing associations to fail and the standard of racing, and the value of horses, to decline as a result. The bookâs historical perspective and examination of the financial implications of this new legislation make it an important text for understanding the challenges faced by racing associations at the end of the nineteenth century.
