Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book surveys the Tangier gold mining district of Nova Scotia, Canada, in the mid-19th century. The author, a surveyor and geologist, visited the district in 1862 to assess its potential for mining. He found that the district contained numerous gold-bearing quartz veins, some of which were very rich and had yielded significant amounts of gold. He also noted that the district had a number of advantages for mining, including a good supply of water and timber, and a relatively mild climate. The book provides a detailed description of the geology of the district, the methods used to extract gold from the veins, and the costs of mining. It also discusses the history of mining in the district and the prospects for future development. The author's assessment of the Tangier district was optimistic, and he believed that it had the potential to become a major gold-producing region. His report helped to attract investment to the district, and mining operations expanded rapidly in the years that followed.
