The author, an American visitor in 1927, spent many evenings and nights exploring the city, accompanied by a Venetian friend who showed him the city's hidden gems. The author captures the experience of being in a city that feels like a dream; a labyrinth of canals, with soft moonlight and gentle darkness hiding the cityâs true essence. The book provides a vivid impression of Venice as it was in the late 1920s, particularly the gondoliers, street musicians, and the locals who kept the heart of the city alive. The conversational and personable tone of the book gives the reader a sense of traveling alongside the author on these nightly escapades.
