Excerpt from Testamenta XII Patriarcharum
On my becoming aware of these further authorities for the text, I endeavoured at once to obtain collations of them. After experiencing several failures in the case of the Roman ms., I was at last successful through the kindness of Dr. Ignazio Guidi, to whom I return my most sincere thanks. The collation which follows is a copy of that sent to me by him, save that I have occasionally omitted variations such as itacisms or the like, in cases where the sense of the passage is not at all affected. When this ms, or the following, agrees with the Oxford against the Cambridge ms., I have for the sake of brevity noted the variation simply as O.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book takes a remarkably wide-ranging view of the Testament of the Twelve Patriarchs, an ancient Jewish religious text that historians believe was written sometime between the second century BCE and the second century CE. As a pseudepigraphical work, it presents itself as the writings of the twelve sons of Jacob, each of whom reflects on his own life and offers guidance to his descendants. In the centuries since its composition, it has been referenced in early Christian literature and notably by Origen, but has received comparatively little direct study. The author of this book examines existing manuscripts of the text and explores its reception and influence in different communities over the years to provide a comprehensive framework for understanding this important but understudied work. The book offers a powerful resource for anyone interested in the study of ancient Judaism and early Christianity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781528110556_0
