Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents 38 sizing tests that evaluate paper's resistance to the ingress of water and aqueous substances. The author presents all the methods under four groupings according to type, and critically discusses their effectiveness. Some methods, such as ink tests, are shown to vary their results based on the solution's composition. Electrolytic conductivity tests are shown to contain substantial error due to trapped air. The author presents a method using a dry indicator as one that avoids these pitfalls and gives reproducible results that are proportional to the paper's thickness. This method, along with other water-penetration tests, is considered most suitable for determining the degree of internal sizing of paper. The book is significant in consolidating and comparing a wide range of paper sizing tests, providing valuable insights for paper manufacturers and those involved in converting and using paper.
