Written by the author after a summer survey of the area in 1912, the book investigates various forest types in the region and makes recommendations for how best to utilise the land for farming or forestry. Soil conditions and drainage are a key component of the author's research; his findings show that drainage possibilities in muskeg areas will be a key component in the future management of these lands, and that proper drainage could lead to successful agriculture in the terrain. However, the author also highlights the value of the timber in the region, and suggests that much of the land is more suited to forest reserves than agriculture. The book concludes that further examination is needed to determine the final boundaries of these proposed reserves, and offers insights into the impact of repeated burning and reforestation.
