Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book analyzes how the European war influenced American international trade between the years of 1914 and 1915. Prior to the war, international trade was dominated by a triumvirate: Great Britain, Germany, and the United States. They approached commerce uniquely. Great Britain was armed with a surplus of capital and a global web of banks and shipping, ensuring commercial success. Germany, on the other hand, applied scientific inquiry to industrial processes and labor practices to become an export powerhouse. The United States differed in lacking the financial or strategic advantages of the other two and was therefore less internationally competitive. The war, however, toppled this established order. Germany's and Great Britain's industrial capabilities were crippled while the author observes the United States underwent a "revolution" of its own on the world stage. The author argues that the United States will permanently benefit from the shift in global trade and that the country is likely to take a top spot among international players.
