XTC 8000 controller. The book describes the hardware and software of the system, including the tape transport and its vacuum column tape handling system. It also describes the implementation of read-after-write parity checking, vertical parity checking, longitudinal parity checking, and cyclic redundancy checking. The author provides flowcharts of the system's software, including the Mag Tape General Loader, which can load 108-byte fixed-length object data records from 9-track magnetic tape. The software also includes a symbol table, which builds downward in memory and allows the loader to check for undefined symbols.
